Fred Astaire is the ONLY way to bring in the new year, as far as I'm concerned.Happy New Year to you and yours! :)
Happy New Year to you, too, Ruth! Wish TCM had given at least a part of New Year's Eve to Mr. Astaire - "Holiday Inn," perhaps, with his famous NYE "drunk dance" (plus Bing Crosby singing "White Christmas").
I felt the lack of Holiday Inn pleasure too, Eve. That's a staple for Christmas and I can't believe I don't have it in my collection. Love Fred ... what style!
Becky, The every-Wednesday spotlight on Fred Astaire in December made for one of the most delightful TCM "Star of the Month" features ever. I've got to buy "Holiday Inn," too.
For the last 6 months I have not had cable, so no TCM -- HORRORS! I've decided to just stop paying my gas bill and get it back. I can't STAND being cut off from my true love! (I was going to say I would stop paying my electric bill, but then realized if I do that I couldn't watch it!)
Don't you wish it were possible to simply select a few TV channels that you regularly watch and pay for just them - rather than have to pay for basic service plus an expensive package that includes scores and scores of stations you don't care about just so you can watch the handful you do?
I can't think of a more elegant way to ring in the new year! Cheers to you, Lady Eve and your beautiful blog!
Cheers to you, too, FlickChick! I'm looking forward to your series for 2014 on films about Hollywood at "A Person in the Dark."
Happy Belated New Year's Lady Eve. Mine was spent being sick. But yesterday made up for it as I received a costume sketch of Cyd Charisse from Singing in the Rain that I had won at auction. I don't mean to brag, but I have one from Holiday Inn too, that has Marjorie Reynolds dancing with Fred Astaire. Thanks for this clip of Fred, eternally enthralling.
Happy New Year, Christian! Hope you're feeling much better. I'm also hoping to see your newly acquired costume sketch of Cyd Charisse and the "Holiday Inn" sketch on Silver Screen Modiste one day soon.
