One Year Ago Today...

The Lady Eve's Reel Life is one year old today...and no one is more surprised by this anniversary than the lady herself. When I nervously posted my first piece on TCM's Classic Film Union blog pages about 2-1/2 years ago I didn't imagine I'd soon be contributing to a collaborative blog (The Classic Film & TV Cafe) and would, not too much later, begin a blog of my own. I never would have believed that along the way I'd get to know and interview two amazing women, one a former child actress who'd been featured in a Hitchcock classic, and the other the daughter of an iconic star of the silent era. As fulfilling as all of this has been, equally rewarding is getting to know the many classic film fans and bloggers I've met in the past few years. I received a lot of help from these new friends as I set off on my blogging adventures and want to particularly thank Rick Armstrong, who couldn't be more supportive, helpful - and patient!

At first I thought I might celebrate here by sharing links to some of my early TCM and Cafe blogs, but reconsidered. I'd rather nod in the direction of the film that inspired my online moniker, the scintillating work of brilliant and meteoric writer/director Preston Sturges -The Lady Eve (1941)...

Thanks to all who visit Reel Life, with deepest gratitude to my loyal followers!

  13. Happy anniversary, Eve, to you and your wonderful blog! Thanks for the compliment, but I only provided encouragement. Your impeccable research and writing skills is what made "The Reel Life "can't miss" reading.

  14. Thanks so much to Brandie and Buccaneer Birdie...Kim, good to hear from you again (happy to see you've posted for the first time in a long time on your blog).

Rick, you have given me more than encouragement. You invited me to join the Cafe as it was being formed, you reviewed and made editing suggestions on my first Edna May Wonacott interview, you helped me with technical problems as I launched this blog - and that's just a couple of top-of-mind examples. Thank you for everything!

  16. Eve, another congratulations from a faithful reader! It's hard to believe it's only been a year that you have had your own blog! Rick was the online muse for a lot of us, wasn't he? He even helped me learn how to set my blog up!

Reading FlickChick and Bonjour's remarks made me realize that my own anniversary is coming up too, October 6th! This will be my second (that sure doesn't seem possible at all!). So we have a lot of autumn girls! (And here my cosmetician always said I was a winter! LOL!)

Again, well-deserved kudos to your wonderful blog...

  17. It seems this is the time of year to start a film blog...maybe we should all have a virtual party next year...

Bonjour Tristesse, now that's an fascinating, gorgeous and somewhat disturbing film! I can't resist it...

Becky - I think we began at about the same time (2009) and place (TCM's CFU) with the same gang of classic film fanatics. As I recall, you (as well as Rick) helped me figure out a thing or two when I was trying to get this blog up & running. It's been a lot of fun and you've been a great friend. Love your blog.

Thanks again to all who stopped by today...appreciate all of your kind words so much...

  19. Hi Dawn - I think we first met over at CFU, too, didn't we? Rick has been a true friend and mentor to more than a few fledgling classic movie bloggers. Thanks, and I'm one of your faithful readers, too.

  22. Well, thanks Dorian and Mythical Monkey...so good to hear from both of you. I'm hoping to keep this blog going (and getting better) far into the future. And I'm open to suggestions, by the way.

  23. Eve, the only reason I don't post on your ever-fab THE LADY EVE'S REEL LIFE is that in recent months, I've been wildly busy with both my writing and my wonderful daughter, who's conquered her ADHD and Asperger's well enough that she's in a mainstream high school with mild help from her Inclusion Aide -- we're so proud of her! I shall be sure to organize my time better so I can join more frequently in your always-scintillating comments. Keep up your great work, Eve; you're always well worth reading!

    P.S.: Sorry if I blathered a bit there! :-)

  24. Eve,

Congratulations on your first blog anniversary. I am looking forward to many more as I know they will just as entertaining, informative (so well researched!) and well written as this first year has been.

  25. Dorian - Please do not apologize, I could do so much better at commenting myself! And your news about your daughter is wonderful. This is the busiest time of year for me, so I understand what you're going through...

John - I think I bonded with you the moment I read your comment on my John Lennon birthday post last year. A kindred spirit, I thought (and I was right). Thanks...
